TNK-Uvat Begins Pilot Dual Drilling Project

TNK-Uvat (a TNK-BP subsidiary) has begun a dual drilling pilot project and the first dual well will be drilled at the end of March in the Ust-Tegusskoye field as part of the Uvat project in Tyumen Region, Oil and Gas Information Agency reports. According to TNK-Uvat General Director Andrey Rublyov, upon completion the project will enable TNK-Uvat to produce oil from different seams with one well bore. At the same time, the oil from each reservoir will be extracted separately.

“The potential debit from the [Ust-Tengusskoye] reservoirs is about 100 tons of crude per day, and this means that one well will produce up to 200 tons of black gold”, Rublyov said.

The company’s specialists predict that drilling expenses on the project will be cut significantly.

This is the first such project in Russia. Similar wells are being used by Schlumberger in Ecuador (18 wells) and Baker Hughes in Asia and Africa (12 wells).

The equipment being used to build the wells at Ust-Tengusskoye was also manufactured by Schlumberger and Baker Hughes.
