ChelPipe, TMK Complain About Russian Strip Price Hikes

Russian pipemakers ChelPipe and TMK have filed separate complaints with Russia’s federal antimonopoly service (FAS) against strip price hikes by Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) and Severstal, Steel Business Briefing learns from the pipemakers.

ChelPipe specifically targets MMK, while TMK is complaining about both mills. Recent strip price increases by these mills mean steel represents up to 80% of total pipe costs, they say. The strip prices of these mills have soared by over 30% since December, SBB is told by the two buyers.
