Gazprom Neft launches “green” seismic in Russia

May 30, 2014

Gazprom Neft has been Russia’s first oil and gas company to complete a pilot project in seismic research based on new technologies that allow preserving forests. The new green technology was tested on the West-Chatylkinskoye area in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomos Area, jointly with Noyabrskneftegaz. The tests showed that it is possible to cut twice as few trees as when traditional methods are used. On an area of 400 sq km, it is possible to preserve some 200 ha of forest or 60,000 trees.

The green project is based on the wireless data collection technology RT System2. It works without a cable, so it is not necessary to cut trees to lay cables. The technology also allows signal monitoring and processing in real time.
