Kazakhstan’s Taraz free economic area to be launched by end-2015

The special economic area Chemical Park Taraz will be launched by the end of 2015, the local authorities in Dzhambyl Region have said.

The Kazakh president signed a decree to establish Chemical Park Taraz, which is to function until 2037, in 2012. Dzhambyl Region has considerable mineral resources, a high transit potential, a developed chemical and energy infrastructure and qualified personnel for a special economic area of this kind.

Gali Iskaliyev, a deputy head of the region, said the project implementation should be sped up, in particular land allocation for infrastructure and the construction of living quarters for construction workers. He said construction works would start in April and the first stage was likely to be launched at the end of 2015. It is also planned to commission a plant to produce glyphosate, which has never been produced in Kazakhstan and the CIS, he said.
