Russia’s Rosneft To Build LNG Plant With Exxon Mobil

Russian state-controlled oil company Rosneft and U.S. giant Exxon Mobil will start designing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the Sakhalin Region in early 2014 and will launch its construction in the first half of 2015, the press office of the regional governor said Thursday, as cited by RIA Novosti, Prime reported on October 31.

“The information was announced at a meeting of a working group on the construction of an LNG plant in Sakhalin with Rosneft Vice President Vlada Rusakova and the region’s head Alexander Khoroshavin,” the press office said.

In 2013–2014, Rosneft and Exxon Mobil are expected to complete the design activities, including the choice of the liquidation technology and engineering operations, among others.

The annual projected capacity of the plant will amount to 5 million tonnes of LNG, with the prospective of an increase.

The parties will make a final decision on the location of the plant and the technologies used by the end of the current year.
