PHOTO REPORTAGE: Baker Hughes To Officially Open Tyumen ESP Cable Factory in November

Baker Hughes plans to officially open its ESP cable factory in Tyumen Region, Russia, in November, Baker Hughes production manager Nikolay Krasnorutskiy said. On Wednesday, Tyumen Region Governor Vladimir Yakushev visited the plant at the eastern edge of the city of Tyumen in West Siberia. The industrial park where the plant is located is also the site of Schlumberger's ESP assembly plant and a Bentec rig manufacturing facility.

Krasnorutskiy said that the enterprise, at which the company plans to produce up to 8,000 kilometers of oil submersible cable a year, would be started by the end of 2013, most likely in November. He said work was progressing according to schedule. In July 2013, Krasnorutskiy hosted a trade delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia led by AmCham President Andrew Somers. Oil&Gas Eurasia was a member of the delegation.

During that visit, Krasnorutskiy told guests that the plant was already in testing stages and that the first cable shipments would occur in August. He explained that cable produced at the plant will be supplied to Baker Hughes affiliates within Russia.

The total investment in the new, two-line production facility is over 2.5 billion roubles. The project will create over 200 high-qualified jobs and will make use of modern technologies, the governor's press office said, according to Vslukh.

Yakushev said that carrying out the investment project would aid in growing tax and other revenue for regional and municipal budgets and increase the investment attractiveness of the region overall. 

Tyumen regional authorities actively seek to attract foreign investment in oil field service and equipment manufacturing facilities in the region. The regional government offers tax holidays and assistance in finding sites for manufacturing facilities with appropriate infrastructure and logistics. The proactive approach of Tyumen authorities has given the region a business friendly reputation.

Baker Hughes is the third largest oil services company in the world after Schlumberger and Halliburton. It has operations in over 90 countries. Besides manufacturing industrial goods and equipment, the company is involved in drilling, reserves estimation, field infrastructure development and more.
