The U.S. is ready to supply natural gas directly to Europe to decrease its dependence on Russian gas, U.S. President Barack Obama said at the U.S.–E.U. summit on March 26, Prime has reported.

Obama said that stricter sanctions against Russia will have a different effect on the countries within the E.U., because some states are more dependent on Russian supplies than others.

The U.S. and the E.U. imposed sanctions against some Russian officials and businessmen following Crimea’s annexation. Washington is ready to provide Europe with gas in volumes exceeding its consumption. The gas will be supplied onto an open market and sold via licensed private companies.

Obama said that the U.S. intends to continue to investment directly into the economies of the European countries.
