Ukraine invites Austrian companies to participate in projects aimed at increasing gas production, the government news agency Ukrinform reported on November 21.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said this at a meeting with journalists in Vienna on November 21, the presidential press service reported.

"We currently invite Austrian companies to negotiations along with such world leaders as Chevron, Shell and ExxonMobil. We are waiting now for the Austrian business to hold such negotiations," he said, adding that Austria's experience in oil and gas production will be useful for Ukraine.

He said that cooperation in the petrochemical industry is a promising area of bilateral cooperation: "We have oil refineries that need to be modernized."
