November 12, 2013

Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz Ukrainy has paid for Russian gas supplied in October, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavitsky said on November 11, as cited by RIA Novosti, Prime reported on November 11.

“We have paid. I will tell you (the volume of gas and the size of payment) on November 20, when we receive the exact data,” Stavitsky said.

Naftogaz Ukrainy planned to pay only U.S. $15 million for the gas delivered in October, not $1.355 billion as Gazprom demanded.

The company also continues to pay for gas supplied in August and has already transferred over 20% of a $792 million debt, Stavitsky said.

Under the contract, Naftogaz Ukrainy must pay no later than the seventh day of the following month.
