In the first seven months of 2011, Ukraine has increased its gas imports 73.1 percent compared to the previous year - to 30.7 billion cubic meters of gas. Gas imports from Russia rose 62.1 percent to 28.7 billion cubic meters of gas, the State Statistics Department has reported.
In monetary terms supplies increased 80 percent to $8.6 billion.
The growth is due to agreements between Naftogaz and Gazprom on increasing supplies in the first half of the year.
This has allowed Ukraine to save money as the price of gas in the third and fourth quarters is higher than its was in quarters one and two.
