Ukraine will soon receive the first tranche of a credit to modernize one section of its gas transportation system for $300 million, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's European Union Department, Vasyl Filipchuk, said, Regnum news has reported.

"Preparations have been under way for six months on the technical plan to modernize one segment of the gas transport system for which $300 million is to be allocated. Obviously, when the plan is drafted for the entire system, the sums will be much higher", Filipchuk said.

Filipchuk also stressed that Ukraine is continuing negotiations with bot the EU and Russia on modernizing the gas transport system.
