Ukraine Fails to Pay Debt to Gazprom, No Agreement Reached

December 5, 2013

Russia, Ukraine did not agree on the terms under which Ukraine will repay the country’s major gas debt to Russia yet, Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller told reporters on December 4, Itar-Tass has reported.

“Today, the debt of the Ukrainian national joint stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy for the gas supplies made in August, October and November has reached $2.02 billion, we are seeking for solutions to this problem, we are negotiating, but did not reach an agreement yet,” he stated.

Naftogaz Ukrainy has imported 1.7 billion cubic meters of Russian gas for $700 million in November 2013, Miller said, noting that Ukraine had owed $2.02 billion for gas supplies in August, October and November.

It was earlier reported that Ukraine has indebted $1.3 billion to the Russian gas giant Gazprom for gas supplies in August and October. Thus, in November Naftogaz has imported 1.7 billion cubic meters of gas for $700 million at the price of $400 for 1,000 cubic meters.
