Ukraine: Azerbaijan is a Priority Supplier of LNG

December 22, 2010
Ukraine views Azerbaijan as a strategic supplier of liquified natural gas, the leader of the Ukrainian president's National Project group, Vladislav Kaskiv said.

In order to reduce its energy dependence on Russia, Ukraine plans to build an LNG terminal on the shore of the Black Sea. The Ukrainian authorities believe that the new facility will make it possible to diversify gas supplies and reduce costs.

According to preliminary assessments the 10 billion cubic meter per year capacity terminal will cost $2.5 billion.

"Azerbaijan is one of the desirable and priority suppliers of LNG for a number of reasons", Kaskiv said.

He added that Azerbaijan's main advantage as a supplier is its close proximity to Ukraine. "By virtue of this, as a supplier Azerbaijan can count on mutually beneficial conditions for cooperation", he said.
