Spanish Repsol starts gas production at Kinteroni in Peru

Spanish oil company Repsol announced on January 31 it had started gas production in the Kinteroni field in Peru, one of the key projects of the company''s strategic plan for 2012-2016, Prensa Latina has reported.

The oilfield, located in the department of Cuzco, east of Lima, will produce about 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day, which is expected to double by 2016, according to the Spanish multinational. Repsol is the operator of the project with a 58.34 percent stake, while the remaining 46.16 percent is owned by the Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras.

Kintoroni is located in Block 57, east of the Andes mountain chain, one of the most prolific gas-prone exploratory areas in Peru.
