SOCAR-AQS to drill new wells in Azerbaijan’s West Absheron

SOCAR-AQS LLC, an integrated drilling and well services management company in Azerbaijan, will drill 10 new wells in the West Absheron offshore field, the company said on April 9.

The company plans to drill the new wells with a depth of approximately 1,000 meters from the platform No 20 located at the West Absheron field. The wells will be drilled horizontally on the order of Azneft production association, SOCAR-AQS said.

"Currently, preparations for the drilling work are underway, however, all efforts are focused on the preparations for beginning the drilling at Umid gas condensate field, where we will also begin works," the company said. The reserves of the Umid field are estimated at 200 billion cubic meters of gas.

The West Absheron field is owned by Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR's Absheronneft Oil and Gas Production Department.
