Slovakia, Ukraine continue to prepare reverse gas flow

Legal issues that prevent reverse gas supplies to Ukraine from Slovakia will be removed, Ukraine's Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan told reporters on April 9, Ukrinform has reported.

"Yesterday we met with representatives of a European gas company, including representatives of the Slovak operator Eustream, who confirmed that there are no technical issues regarding the reverse flow of gas, but defined the legal issues associated with their contractual relations. And they also promised to settle this soon," Prodan said.

Asked by reporters whether the technical issue of reverse supplies is finally removed, the minister said a representative of the Slovak operator spoke about legal, rather than technical issues. "But we agreed that next week there will be a meeting of our operator Ukrtransgas with the Slovak operator. They will discuss this issue," the minister said.

Prodan also said the Ukrainian side asked the European Commission to take appropriate measures to address the issue of reverse gas supplies, and the Commission pledged a substantial support to resolve this matter.
