Russian Scientists Find Oil in Diamonds

December 2, 2013

Scientists from the Sobolev geology and mineralogy institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have come across data that do not support the theory according to which crude oil was formed from remains of biological activity. The data also suggest that there is more oil on the planet than most think.

Scientists have been unable to explain why more oil is sometimes found in exhausted deposits. This is against the biological theory of oil formation. The Russian scientists argue that oil was formed from non-organic substances at ultra-high temperatures and pressures deep under the ground.

The Siberians found heavy hydrocarbons in natural diamonds which are formed at big depths where no living creature can reach. Also, hydrocarbons have been found in the Earth’s mantle, institute director Nikolay Pokhilenko said.
