Russian Prime Minister Says Consumers in North Caucasus Steal Natural Gas

December 19, 2013

The total volume of debt of natural gas consumers in Russia’s North Caucasian Federal District is 50 billion roubles (~$1,52 billion) - almost half of the country’s total debt, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on December 18 at a meeting of the government commission on socio-economic development of the North Caucasian Federal District, Itar-Tass has reported.

Medvedev on Wednesday demanded that the governors of the regions within the North Caucasian Federal District tighten control over the natural gas consumption. “It is necessary to stop gas stealing and the use of non-certified gas equipment, which is a crime,” the prime minister said.
