Russian gas transit to Europe via Ukraine may be stopped

Ukraine may stop its gas transit to Europe after Slovakia has refused to reverse some of its gas supplies to Kiev, Ukrainian Energy Minister Yury Prodan said on April 8 after a meeting in Brussels, RIA Novosti reported.

“As our meeting with gas companies’ representatives has demonstrated, Slovaks said that the issue of gas supplies from Slovakia is not technical, it is rather arising from the agreements with Gazprom,” Prodan told reporters.

“In this situation there is a threat of an end of gas supplies to Ukraine and consequently, a threat of an end of gas transit to Europe, because Ukraine’s ability to maintain transit are not limitless.”
