Russian gas price for Lithuania to fall by 20%

May 14, 2014

The Russian gas price for Lithuania will decrease by at least 20% from July 1, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said on May 13, Prime has reported.

Butkevicius said that Vilnius and Gazprom are now completing last calculations and doing adjustments to the contract. The new agreement did not change Lithuania’s position on the suit against high prices set by Gazprom in the past, which was earlier sent to the Stockholm court. According to the prime minister, the suit might be considered by the court in September–November.

Local news edition Verslo zinios reported earlier that the new gas price for Lithuania will stand at U.S. $370 for 1,000 billion cubic meters. According to sources cited by the newspaper, Gazprom has set several additional conditions for Vilnius, which the local government considered inappropriate.
