October 22, 2013

Russia and India have agreed to set up a committee to study the possibilities of Russian oil and gas supplies to India via on-land pipelines, Prime reported on October 21, citing a joint statement after a bilateral summit on Monday.

“The parties agreed to investigate the possibility of direct on-land transportation of fuel from Russia to India and to establish a joint research team for this purpose,” the statement read.

India has also confirmed the interest of the local company ONGC to explore Arctic deposits jointly with Russian partners.

In October 2012, the gas giant Gazprom and India’s GAIL signed a binding 20-year contract for 2.5 million tonnes of annual liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies.
