Over 50 percent of the trunk pipeline in Kazakhstan have been in use without being repaired for over 30 years, the Kazakhstan Emergency Situations Ministry has reported.
Today over half of the country's pipelines have never been repaired despite the fact that funds are consistently allocated to repair and replace worn segments.
"The accidents and other incidents which we saw on the pipeline in 2010 and 2011 show that many managers of enterprises have not been paying enough attention to prevention", the ministry said in a news release.
"Due to this, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has suggested to the Oil and Gas Ministry that a new law on trunk pipelines be drafted which would include norms on the limit of serviceable life for segments of the trunk pipeline", the ministry continued.
