Naftogaz Ukrainy has asked the government and heating companies to take steps to repay heating companies’ 113 billion rubles, which makes it hard for the company to repay a U.S. $2.7 billion debt to Russia’s Gazprom, the company said in a statement on February 3, Prime has reported.

“Significant debts of heating companies threatens the company’s timely payments for natural gas imports in accordance with a contract with Gazprom,” the statement said.

Earlier on February 3, Vedomosti business daily reported that Gazprom may re-introduce a system of advanced payments as Kiev constantly postpones payments.
