Moscow to resume gas price talks if Kiev starts repaying debt - Medvedev

May 15, 2014

Moscow is ready to restart negotiations on gas price with Ukraine once Kiev starts repaying its debt amounting to U.S. $3.5 billion, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on May 14, Prime has reported.

“Nobody has ever said, “Give us back $4 billion immediately!”, Medvedev said. “But just show us that you are ready to do this. If they repay at least a part of their debt this is a basis for further negotiations,” Medvedev said.

He said that Moscow is ready to harm some of its own interests when discussing the further gas supply conditions for Ukraine, and it is ready, in fact, to provide financial aid.
