Lukoil Wants to Export LNG

November 21, 2013

Lukoil has proposed amendments to the bill on the liberalization of LNG exports in order to make it possible for it to work in the sector, Itar-Tass has reported, citing sources close to the bill’s authors.

The current bill does not allow Lukoil to export LNG so Lukoil suggested dropping a regulation regarding limitations on issuing licenses to build LNG plants. According to the current version of the bill, companies that as of January 1, 2013 had “licenses providing for LNG plant construction” will obtain the right to export LNG.

Lukoil believes the amendment it proposed would encourage exploration of the distant gas fields that are hard to access.
