Kazakhstan looks for new partners in export projects

May 16, 2014

Kazakhstan may have to look for new ways to export oil to Europe if sanctions were introduced against Russia, Kazakh Oil and Gas Minister Uzakbay Karabalin has said. Kazakhstan would be affected by sanctions against Russia, he said. He specified that more than 32 million tons of Kazakh oil has been pumped through the pipeline in Russia which belongs to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. Azerbaijan and Georgia could provide alternatives to the Russian route, said analyst Anna Kokoreva from Alpari. Iran, if sanctions against it were lifted, could become another alternative, said Yury Tsygush from FIBO Group.
