Iran Launches Gas-Sweetening Unit For Delayed South Pars Phases

August 1, 2013

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad officially launched Wednesday commissioning of a gas sweetening unit for the delayed phases 15 and 16 of the giant offshore South Pars gas field, local news agencies reported.

The two phases are now around 92% complete, with some utility units and storage tanks having been completed, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

However drilling of 24 offshore gas wells as well as construction and installation of platforms for the two phases is not yet complete, so gas from three other phases (6-8) will be brought into the onshore facilities of the two phases until they are ready.

The two phases are designed to produce 50 million cubic meters/day of natural gas, 80,000 b/d of condensates, 400 mt/day of sulfur. More than 1 million mt/year of LPG and 1 million mt/year of ethane will also be produced to feed petrochemical plants.
