India Denies Undersea Iran Gas Pipeline Deal

August 21, 2011
India has rejected reports of an undersea gas pipeline deal from Iran.

The Indian Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas denied any new deal for laying a gas pipeline from Iran to India on sea-bed, Irna news agency reported on Saturday.

Shri R.P.N. Singh made the remarks in a written statement to Lok Sabha or
the lower house of the Parliament of India.

The minister assured that Iran and India have not yet signed any agreement for building a gas pipeline bypassing Pakistan.

He went on to say that since 2007 no tripartite meeting between Iran, Pakistan and India has been held about Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline (IPI).

Singh added that the last meeting between Iran, Pakistan and India over IPI project was held in 2007 in New Delhi.
