Contracted gas supplies to Ukraine should not be reduced, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom Board Alexander Medvedev said in an interview with Russian TV news channel Rossiya-24 on January 29, Itar-Tass reported on January 30.

In his words, despite lower Russian gas price for Ukraine Gazprom hopes that the agreement over Ukraine’s taking of contracted gas amounts will be fulfilled.

Medvedev recalled that the Gazprom decision reducing the gas price rendered economic assistance not only to Naftogaz Ukrainy, but also to whole Ukrainian economy. He added that Russia had not put forward any preconditions to Ukraine, particularly over integration in Ukrainian gas transportation system.

The deputy chairman of the Gazprom board noted that Ukraine had not met the deadline of paying the country’s debt for Russian gas supplies at 2.7 billion dollars.

“We waited for a Ukrainian representative, but no one arrived for talks from Ukraine over dissolution of the government. But we hope that the agreements will be fulfilled,” he said.
