The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) has commissioned the third single mooring point (VPU-3) at a terminal near Russia’s Novorossiysk. This is part of a project to increase the throughput capacity of the Tengiz-Novorossiysk oil transportation complex. Once the project is completed, the capacity will reach 67mn tons per annum without drag reduction agents and to 76mn tons with drag reduction agents.
VPU-3 will make it possible to increase oil shipments when one of the moorings is stopped for maintenance once a year so shipments will continue from the two remaining single mooring points. A multi-stage anti-spill system allows servicing large ships and minimizes risks while the turret design of the mooring increases safety during maintenance.
