The Azerbaijan state oil and gas company (SOCAR) is negotiating with Czech and Slovak representatives to supply oil to those central European countries, SOCAR Vice-President Vitaliy Beglyarbekov said Monday.
"Negotiations with the Czech and Slovaks sides on delivering Azeri crude are in their preliminary stage. Of course their is mutual interest and the technical ability. Now we need to turn this interest into a commercial agreement. And it is very possible [to make the deliveries]", he said.
According to Trend, Beglyarbekov noted that the negotiations also included the possibility of routes to further export Azeri oil to Hungary as well as the CZech Republic and Slovakia.
"Some specific work has been done, but it is too early to speak of any results", he said.
Beglyarbekov earlier said that about 45 percent of Azeri oil was sold on the Mediterranean market and another 20 percent on North American markets.
