Weatherford International Ltd. announced that it has been awarded a 2 ½ year, multimillion dollar contract with Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd
Weatherford will provide tubular running services on Piltun-Astokhskoye-B (PA B) processing and production platform off the northeastern coast of Sakhalin Island, Russia.
The contract with Weatherford includes the new OverDrive™ casing running and drilling equipment and services for up to 13 wells on the PA-B platform—part of Sakhalin II, one of the world’s largest integrated oil and gas development projects.
Weatherford has provided conventional tubular running services for Sakhalin Energy on the Sakhalin II project beginning in 2004 on the Molikpaq platform and mechanized tubular running services on the Lunskoye-A platform beginning in 2006 and continues working on these projects to date.
“We are pleased to work with Sakhalin Energy on this most vital drilling project,” commented Kamil Zakirov, Vice President of Weatherford’s Russian operations. “Weatherford’s OverDrive system is uniquely qualified to address any challenges encountered during casing installation in these high angle wells and provides new opportunities to increase efficiency.” Zakirov continues, “Previous experience in this challenging and extreme environment will help us better support our client from the beginning.”
Weatherford’s OverDrive system helps reduce costs, crew size and risk inherent to traditional tubular running operations. This remotely controlled casing running and drilling system combines all conventional equipment into one tool and eliminates the need for a stabber in the derrick. In addition, the ability to push
down, reciprocate and rotate the entire casing string helps ensure the casing can be run to TD successfully in these highly deviated, extended-reach wells.
Weatherford’s market-leading mechanized tubular running systems reduce the cost and flat time of running tubulars, while providing the ultimate in rig floor safety.
Weatherford is one of the largest global providers of innovative mechanical solutions, technology and services for the drilling and production sectors of the oil and gas industry, operates in over 100 countries and employs more than 38,000 people worldwide.
