As a result of tender to supply semi-submersible drilling rig topsides for Gazflot conducted at the end of 2007, Vyborg Shipyard (Vyborg) signed a contract with South Korean Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI)
This contract shall be implemented based on close cooperation between specialists of Russian and South Korean shipyards and the customer company, which will enable to complete the MFDR construction most efficiently and within the period stated by the customer as well as to exchange experience accumulated in the course of similar projects implementation.
Performance of work under this agreement should be completed in the third quarter of 2010, when SHI will deliver the second rig topsides to Vyborg.
While signing the contract Mr. Harris Lee, Vice-President of Samsung Heavy Industries, mentioned that involvement of his company in the project to construct drilling rigs for Gazflot was of great importance for developing and promoting partnership between Vyborg and SHI. He also offered cooperation with the Vyborg in future projects.
At present, Vyborg's and SHI’s representatives are in the process of agreeing upon a number of technical questions, completion of which will allow proceeding with performance of work at the Korean shipyard.
