Nomex(r)-made Overalls to Save from Electric Arc Burns

Personnel exposed to high temperature during their work need special protective devices. In the course of numerous tests, DuPont-designed Nomex(r) fabric proved to be the best.

Today, Nomex(r) fabric is used to manufacture protective clothing for workers of oil, gas, power and chemical industries. Nomex(r) belongs to a group of  fabrics with permanent protective properties.

It is characterized by lightness and air permeability; it does not sustain combustion, melt or emit vapors or gases detrimental for human health. This fabric does not lose its protective properties even after dry-cleaning and washing, as soon as these properties are at molecular level. Nomex(r) fabric's composition includes polyaramide Kevlar(r), which improves the clothes' strength characteristics and minimizes the risk of fabric break in case of flame_editor_energocontract.jpg burst. Under exposure to heat, the fabric's pores close and prevent penetration of hot air inside. The fabric consolidates with formation of a dense carbonized layer on its surface, thus insulating a human body from flame and from thermal flows of convective and radiant energy. The P-140 fiber included into Nomex(r) fabric composition ensures its antistatic properties. The permanent antistatic protection is especially important for technical personnel exposed to reaction gases, as in this environment even an accidental spark can cause fire. Nomex(r) fabric was tested in conformity with techniques applied by the International Standardization Committee on Electrical Engineering and got the highest rating. It also complies with the ENV standard 50354.2000.

Power industry remains the most hazardous among the industries, which are regarded as dangerous to human life. A so-called electric arc represents the greatest danger to life, with temperature reaching 15,000 C within its impact zone. In-house studies and design work enabled the FPG Energocontract company specialists to design sets of clothes using Nomex(r) fabric with properties ensuring full protection agaist the 2nd and the 3rd dergree burns that could be caused by the electric arc (the protection could be ensured provided safety rules and operational conditions were observed).

FPG Energocontract manufactures sets of clothes with various degree of protection based on the assessed risk of specific operating conditions.
