Gas Comes to Arkhangelsk Thermal Plant

One of the biggest energy consuming units in Arkhangelsk Oblast, the Arkhangelsk Thermal Plant, will be connected to the Russian gas pipeline grid in late March and transformed from oil to gas use in the course of summer, Barents Observer reports.

The link will come via Gazprom-subsidiary Gazpromregiongaz, which is in the final stage of connecting the thermal plant to the Russian gas pipeline grid, the Arkhangelsk regional administration announced in a news release. Together with plant owner TGK-2, the Gazprom unit will operate the thermal plant on gas beginning in the summer of this year.

This will significantly help reduce emissions from the plant, which currently runs on low quality fuel oil.
