Lukoil and TNK-BP, two Russian oil giants, are considering taking over the Mažeikiai refinery in Lithuania currently owned by Polish refiner Orlen. According to Rzeczpospolita, the Treasury has given the Orlen supervisory board a free hand in the negotiations. Jacek Komar, the spokesperson for the Lithuanian arm of Orlen said that the sale would be a natural business decision considering the financial woes the refinery has suffered as of late. “We cannot rule out its sale,” he was quoted by IAR news agency as telling Znad Wilii, a Polish radio in Lithuania.
