The world largest tender

The world's largest tender - ever

Brazil's Petrobras will soon be in the market to hire a total of 40 drilling ships and semi-submersible drilling platforms to operate in deep and ultra-deep waters. The company will need the units by 2017, and says "priority will be given to building them in Brazil." Industry observers has tipped the investment figure for the rigs at USD 30bn.

Petrobras will also be looking for support vessels; a total of 146, to be specific. The company already has an invitation to tender underway for the 24 first of these vessels, while bidding for the 122 vessel remainder, is expected over the next six years.

Although much of this will be needed to develop the 8 billion barrel plus Tupi-fieldThis is clear indication that early reports from Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (NPA) over resources in the Carioca-field, might not be as exaggerated after all. NPA said as much as 33billion barrels o foil equivalents had been proven in the Santos Basin field, but Petrobras has said it will await the final outcome of the BM-S-9 exploration program, until it makes its statement.
Early production from Carioca is expected in 2010.
