The Russian government has given licenses to develop nine major gas fields classified as "strategic" resources to state-controlled Gazprom without tenders, according to documents posted on the government's website Wednesday.
The corresponding resolutions were signed by then-prime minister Viktor Zubkov on May 6, the documents said.
"In order to secure stable gas supply in Russia" the government granted Gazprom the right to explore the offshore Kirinsy gas field, which is part of the Sakhalin 3 project in Russia's Far East, according to one of the resolutions.
The other resolution allows the transfer to Gazprom the rights to develop the Zapadno-Tambeiskoye, Severo-Tambeiskoye, Semakovskoye, Tota-Yakhinskoye, Antipayutinskoye, Kruzenshternskoye, Tasiyskoye and Malyginskoye gas fields.
