GE Energy has signed a distributor and service agreement with Max Motors, LLC. to promote the business growth of GE’s Jenbacher gas engines in the Russian
Federation. The agreement is focusing primarily on southern and southwestern Russia as the country expands its use of distributed energy technology to improve its power generation and delivery infrastructure.
Max Motors is based in the famous resort city of Sochi (“the Russian Summer Capital”) and has worked in the distributed energy segment for several years as a supplier of diesel -fueled generator sets. The company has also worked with another GE business division, GE Consumer & Industrial, which provides customers with low voltage protection and control solutions as well as uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems for infrastructure, building and industry needs.
GE’s Jenbacher gas engine business and Max Motors previously worked together to provide a Jenbacher cogeneration system for a commercial greenhouse in the Russian region of Krasnodar.
GE is supplying gas engines totaling five megawatts of power that will operate in island mode to provide lighting and heat for the facility, which specializes in the production of roses. The new system is to be commissioned by the end of 2008.
Max Motors also is supporting several existing, projects on behalf of GE’s Jenbacher greenhouse applications center of excellence in The Netherlands.
“Our new distribution agreement with Max Motors will bolster our ability to meet the growing demand for decentralized energy and district heating technology in Russia, particularly in various industrial sectors,” said Prady Iyyanki, CEO of GE’s Jenbacher gas engine business, noting GE has also supplied its engines for other types of projects in Russia. “Having Max Motors as a reliable and
respected sales and service provider helps ensure our customers receive the best possible service after an engine system has been installed, which is a crucial element of our commitment to our
customers.”
“The flexibility and durability of Jenbacher engines enable the units to operate in support of the local grid or in stand-alone or ‘island mode,’ making them ideally suited for numerous industrial on-site power applications in different weather conditions,” Iyyanki said. For example, GE has previously supplied its natural gas-fueled Jenbacher units to provide on-site power for oil and gas production sites in western Siberia.
“Max Motors and GE Energy’s Jenbacher gas engine business are in a much stronger position to help customers more effectively and promptly meet the region’s fast-growing demand for on-site power, which will intensify in the coming years,” said Alex Popov, General Director of Max Motors. “Sochi has
been selected by the International Olympic Committee to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, a role that will require significant investments in the region’s energy infrastructure.”
In addition to the distribution agreement with Power Solutions Vertriebs und Handels GmbH, the Max Motors agreement represents GE’s second Jenbacher engine distributor agreement in Russia.
